XB283 first flew on April 17th 1956 and issued to 47 squadron, becoming part of the shared fleet of the Abingdon Wing in 1958.

XB283 had an engine fire at Nicosia on February 17th 1958 which was repaired by the end of March. But in the same year undershot the runway at Azaiba, Muscat, while on loan to 84 squadron. Because of the extensive damage it was sent to 131 MU at Khormaksar for repair on the 23rd February 1959 and then ferried to the United Kingdom for more repair work and overhaul by Blackburn's.

It finally returned to operational service with the Abingdon wing in January 1960, where it continued to serve until January 1964. XB283 then made the long journey to Singapore to join 34 squadron. On St Valentine's Day 14th February 1968, XB283 was Struck off Charge and subsequently scrapped on-site at Seletar.
