Related Notes & Links
Grumman's last Piston Engine fighter, the Bearcat arrived just too late to see service in World War. II
The Bearcat was the United States Navy's mainstay Fighter during the early 1950's but after 10 Years
of Service it had to give way to the new generation of Jet Aircraft.
The only Nation to use the Bearcat extensively in Combat was the French Air Force
during the First Indochina War, where it was tasked with Ground Attack.
The aircraft pictured left USN Service in 1957 and passed through several US owners until 1977 when
it was subject to a total rebuild. In 1981 it was sold to The Fighter Collection and after further
work was shipped to Britain and became an active part of The Fighter Collection in 1984, with whom
it remains to this day.
