00-0171 has an interesting history. Prior to delivery to the USAF, Boeing flew 00-0171 down to Edwards Airforce Base in California USA for a test programme. During this month long programme the Aircraft broke 13 World Records in altitude and payload categories!

On the Aircraft's return from Edwards AFB, the Aircraft was prepared and painted for USAF service and became the 21st C-17A to be delivered to McChord AFB USA, home of the 62nd Airlift Wing on 15th February 2001. It remained with 62nd AW until 2007 when it was transferred to Elmendorf AFB in Alaska USA.
