Originally one of the two in the second batch of Court Line orders BAC One-Eleven 518FG Aircraft from BAC (the first batch of 6 Aircraft were built and delivered sequentially between December 1968 and April 1970). The Aircraft pictured was last to be be built for Court Line and passed to British Caledonian after that Airlines collapse.
BAC One-Eleven 518FG c/n 233 G-AYOP made its Manufacturers Test Flight on the 3rd March 1971 and was delivered to Court Line on the 31st March 1971, in time for the Summer Season.

As British Caledonian were dealing with the effects of the 1973 Oil Crisis and had reduced operations and staff to cope, a lease to a carrier such as Air Malta was a much needed source of revenue.
