British United Airways under its Managing Director Freddie Laker was launch customer for the BAC One-Eleven,
ordering 10 Aircraft on the 9th May 1961.
However the first delivery to BUA was not until 22 January 1965 when
G-ASJI
(the Aircraft Pictured Above) arrived with the Airline, but as this spent the next 3 months on training
and route proving with mixed BAC/BUA cockpit crews, it was not finally fully handed over until
15th April 1965.
The remaining 201AC Series Aircraft were delivered to BUA in the following order:
G-ASJJ (Crashed 1969),
G-ASJH,
G-ASJF,
G-ASJG,
G-ASJE,
G-ASJD,
G-ASJA (Sold to the Mexican Air Force in October 1969),
G-ASJC,and
G-ASTJ Replacing the undelivered G-ASJB which crashed whilst being used
by BAC for Development flying).
Eight Aircraft served with British Caledonian following the takeover of British United Airways, but were phased out
in the early 1980's.
